Fire Management Plans
The National Fire Plan provides federal fire managers opportunities to use the "appropriate management response" to best accomplish land management objectives during wildfires. Fire staff can identify wildfires that achieve beneficial resource management objectives and manage them as if they were prescribed burns. In order to manage fires for resource benefit on public land, an area must have an approved Fire Management Plan. The development of a Fire Management Plan is essential in clarifying the landowner's options regarding wildfire on their lands. It makes little sense to suppress fires which are safely achieving resource management objectives that the landowner would have to pay for at any other time. Also, better integration of fire management on federal and private lands facilitates optimal stewardship of public lands.
TSS develops fire management plans that help landowners live safely with wildfire. We specialize in developing fire and fuels management strategies for large, forest or rangeland properties. Our scientific knowledge and expertise help facilitate approval of fire management plans and improve the likelihood that objectives will be met, i.e., to mitigate the ecological effects of wildfire, reintroduce fire to the landscape, or prevent the loss of lives and property.
