Fire Behavior Modeling
TSS staff is well versed in the setup and implementation of the FARSITE and FlamMap fire behavior models. These programs use fuels, weather, and topographic information to create graphical portrayals of potential wildfire spread patterns, rates of spread, and burn intensities. Depending on the level of specificity required and the appropriateness of running either FARSITE and/or FlamMap models, TSS can model the efficacy of an existing fuel break system and/or design a new fire management strategy to protect the ecosystem services and assets at risk. TSS often uses these spatially–explicit fire behavior modeling tools for communicating landscape wildfire hazard and mitigation opportunities to its clients. Back
