Fiber and Log Market Analyses
Long-term availability of economical, locally-sourced sawlog resources is a primary driver in a sawmill’s financial performance. The TSS team works closely with clients to ascertain whether there is a long-term supply of sawlogs, the characteristics (size and species) of sawlogs and availability at current market prices. Consideration of changing market conditions, including existing and future competition for sawlog resources, is an important factor in the analysis. Utilizing readily available GIS data, TSS generates vegetation cover layers for a target study area, assesses the vegetation type by ownership, and conducts sawlog harvest analysis. The target study area represents that region which is most likely to provide sustainable quantities of sawlog resources for a particular sawmill or other forest products manufacturing enterprise.
