Fiber and Log Market Analyses
Long-term availability of economical, locally-sourced fiber and sawlog resources is a primary driver in a value-added conversion facility's financial performance. The TSS team works closely with clients to ascertain whether there is a long-term supply of fiber and sawlogs, the characteristics (size and species) of fiber/sawlogs and availability at current market prices. Consideration of changing market conditions, including existing and future competition for fiber/sawlog resources, is an important factor in the analysis. Utilizing readily available GIS data, TSS generates vegetation cover layers for a target study area, assesses the vegetation type by ownership, and conducts fiber/sawlog harvest analysis. The target study area represents that region which is most likely to provide sustainable quantities of fiber/sawlog resources for a particular value-added conversion process, be it a fuel pellet facility, sawmill, or other forest products manufacturing enterprise.
