Project Title: Dry Forest Mechanized Fuels Treatment Trials
Client: Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council
Location: Oregon, Washington, and Idaho

The Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council retained TSS to manage a research project assessing the costs, production, and impacts of mechanical equipment systems used to treat non-commercial forest biomass in the dry forests of the Intermountain West.  The project was funded by the USDA Forest Service with the intention of organizing and coordinating realistic fuels treatment trials at four locations in three states.  The results of these trials were synthesized and disseminated to natural resource agency personnel, local contractors, and other interested groups and organizations.  The long-term project outcomes included:  a detailed analysis of the most appropriate mechanical systems; reduced environmental impacts and increased efficiency of these systems with subsequently greater acreages treated for hazardous fuels reduction; and the retention and creation of local jobs.  A final report (see Dry Forest Mechanized Treatment Final Report under Presentations and Papers).
