Project Title: USFS Biomass to Electrons Project
Client: Pacific Southwest Research Station, USDA Forest Service Location: Northern California
TSS has worked with the USDA Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Research Station to assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic, environmental and energy (3E) life cycle assessment (LCA) model. This model can be used to evaluate the potential public benefits of electricity generation from woody biomass material generated as a byproduct of forest remediation activities. TSS has the lead responsibility for developing an LCA model framework, data formats, fire behavior modeling, air emission assessment, forest remediation equipment selection/allocation and data analysis for this project sponsored by the California Energy Commission and managed by the U.S. Forest Service. This LCA is unique as it is using an economic, environmental, and energy approach to evaluate a wide range of resource management-based opportunities. Back
